|Existing Model or New Design?
As a custom manufacturer, we have the flexibility to allow you to modify the dimensions or the style of any existing piece in our gallery or to create something completely unique from scratch based on your own requirements and design inspirations. You may provide us with a sketch or magazine photo and we can bring the idea to life and create something you will be proud to own for years to come.
If you are comfortable with shop drawings, or with the sketch or photo you've provided accompanied with dimensions the craftsman can begin with the creation of your piece. Tschirhart’s Custom Billiards takes on some of the more elaborate designs as the high level of skill is employed daily in the building of their custom designed and handcrafted billiard tables. If you have a unique idea and would like to see a CAD drawing made to scale to help you visualize what the final piece will look like, an hourly rate is necessary.
We can custom size to your dimensions and make various needed changes because our pieces are handcrafted and made to order, not factory built or mass-produced.
Selecting a Wood
All of our woods are of premium quality, however if you have a preference for wood choice we can accommodate those requests. Prices are available in regular oak, ¼ sawn oak, maple or cherry hardwoods. Through his years of experience, Mr. Tschirhart has gained extensive knowledge of many species of exotic woods and prefers to use them for their unique appeal and characteristics. If you wish to use an exotic wood in your piece, contact us for a quote or if you have any questions.
The following are characteristics of some of our most popular wood choices to help you understand the difference in the common species of wood:
- Ash - White ash is a ring-porous, hardwood of great strength. Used for furniture frames and hidden parts. Black ash is similar to white but lighter in weight and softer.
- Maple - Hard or "sugar," maple is one of the most popular woods used in today's furniture industry. It is elastic and very strong. It has good shock resisting qualities and wears well. It is one of the hardest of the common woods. The grain is straight with occasional wavy, curly, bird's eye patterns that are much sought after. The natural color varies from white to amber. Maple shares close resemblances to cherry and can sometimes be finished to simulate the look cherry wood to an untrained eye.
- Oak - Oak is the most popular of all wood used in furniture making. Oak is very tough, strong, hard, and can live up to the every day abuse furniture takes. It has a pronounced grain that is emphasized particularly when quarter sawn. This is called a "cathedral" grain.
The sky is the limit
There are many considerations to be taken into account once the decision to purchase custom designed furniture is made. While it can be time consuming to make a decision, our friendly and professional sales staff takes pride in helping you make the right decision so you can take advantage of the custom design process that will leave you with beautiful furniture that carries with it longevity and personal satisfaction to last well over a lifetime.
You may modify or add extra items or adjust any standard height or width of our furniture to what you may desire. Upgradeable options such as additional or deeper drawers, adjustable shelves, heavier slides for the drawers, a swivel for your chair or TV unit, beveled glass mirrors, pocket doors or hidden hinges are all available.
The following we’ve used something as simple as a chair to illustrate a few of the important considerations you may have not been aware of:
Comfort on a wooden chair with a slightly molded seat is much more comfortable to sit on for long periods of time than one that has a completely flat surface. We can also make padded or upholstered chairs and stools. Chairs that curve in the back area are not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but also give the correct ergonomic support for the back.
